From 7- I'll have volunteers present solutions to selected problems.I'll post the problems for the week here usually by Friday of the week before.The team has finished fourth in the competition 2007-2009, seventh in 2010, fourth in 11$, and twelfth last year.

Billstein, Libeskind and Lott have adopted these problem solving steps in their book "A Problem Solving Approach to Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers (The Benjamin/Cummings Publishing Co.).

They are based on the problem-solving steps first outlined by George Polya in 1945.

Each year there are about 3600 students from colleges and universities across the US and Canada who take the test.

This year I'll be running the Polya seminar, one of whose aims is to motivate students to participate in the Putnam competition.

The Polya seminar is also being offered as a 1 credit course Math 193.

You do not need to sign up for the course in order to participate in the seminar.
