Based on the interests of the stakeholders and their priorities, two alternatives resulting in four scenarios are identified and ranked against four selected criteria.A combination of improved industrial technology and efficient municipal waste management gives the best solution to the pollution problem in Hanumante River.Studies indicated that the upper reaches of the river Cauvery at Madayyankuttai which receives industrial/chemical wastes from Mettur Industrial Complex; Erode, Pallipalayam/Kumarapalayam at the middle reaches which receive textile and dye wastes, paper mill wastes and sewage; River Bhavani which receives viscose factory wastes below Bhavanisagar and sewage at Bhavani Town; River Amaravati at Kurur which receives untreated sewage; and Uyyakondan Channel at Trichirapalli which receives city sewage and distillery wastes were found to be grossly polluted.
more One year long study was executed from August 2016 to July 2017 to identify the present status of fish species diversity of Surma River at Sylhet Sadar, Northeast Bangladesh.
A total of 51 fish species belonging to 16 taxonomic families has been identified.
The participation of main stakeholders aids in resolving their various conflicting interests in Hanumante River, thus creating a common understanding about the crisis under study.
A complete functional analysis illustrates various functions fulfilled by the river and their associated services.

more Analytical solutions describing the 1D substance transport in streams have many limitations and factors, which determine their accuracy. One of the very important factors is the presence of the transient storage (dead zones), that deform the concentration distribution of the transported substance. For better adaptation to such real conditions, a simple 1D approximation method is presented in this paper. The catch per unit effort ranged from 0.15 to 0.48 with an average value of 0.34±0.11.Analytical solutions describing the 1D substance transport in streams have many limitations and factors, which determine their accuracy.Different alternative themes have corresponding effects on the selected criteria. The choice is in the hands of the decision makers of Bhaktapur City. Results were evaluated using the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), correlation and relative errors: 92% of the spatial variation was explained for specific water discharge, and 88% and 59% for total nitrogen and total phosphorus concentrations, respectively.Day-to-day variations were modelled with satisfactory results for water discharge and the seasonal variation of nitrogen concentrations was also generally well captured.more This paper presents a new tool, developed with the aim of assessing the environmental impact from industrial effluents and sewage systems in Hanumante River and to recommend the finest procedures to control water pollution so as to improve the water quality of Hanumante River using environmental system analysis.Hanumante River is heavily polluted due to inefficient management resulting in water-associated problems.
